The 2012-13 NFL All-Pro team has officially been released. No surprise, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson and Houston defensive end JJ Watt headline the team’s offensive and defensive units, respectively.

What might come as a surprise is how resoundingly voters got behind each of these two players.

Both were voted unanimous selections to the team, and they were the only players to do so. Fifty nationwide members of the sports media are tasked with the responsibility of voting, and all of them voted for both Peterson and Watt.

Peterson came within nine yards of breaking the all-time single-season rushing record of 2,106 set by Eric Dickerson, and Watt came within two sacks breaking Michael Strahan’s all-time record of 22.5 in a single year.

The selection was Peterson’s third, while Watt was one of 17 players who earned the All-Pro nod for the first time in their careers.

Denver quarterback Payton Manning was named to his sixth team, as was Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez. San Francisco monster Patrick Willis made the fifth team in his first six years in the league.

Willis’ ’49ers had the most on the team with six and Seattle was next with four — all of the Seahawks named are first-timers.

The NFC had 17 players on the list, while the AFC only had ten and only one rookie made the cut: Vikings kicker Blair Walsh, who made a whopping 10 field goals of 50 yards or longer.
