The No. 10 Florida Gators will tip off the first game of the regular season Friday night against Georgetown, and with that comes a quick rundown on what fans can expect out of both teams.
USS Bataan in Jacksonville, Fla.
9 p.m., NBCSN
For this basketball game, the weather will actually prove to be a major factor. The game will be played on board the USS Bataan aircraft carrier. The temperature forecast is projected to be at 42 degrees, with a slight breeze (chucking up long 3-point shots could be difficult).
What to now about Florida
Florida coach Billy Donovan was disappointed with the defense, which gave up 71 points to Nebraska-Kearney during an exhibition last week. The starting five struggled on offense, but got a boost out of the four freshman recruits. Guard Michael Frazier II led the charge with 21 points and stingy defense, while junior forward Will Yeguete also contributed with 19 points.
Florida Gators Player Report
- Junior forward Casey Prather is out with a concussion
- Senior guard Scottie Wilbekin is out due to coach’s decision
What to know about Georgetown
While Florida has three seniors on its roster, Georgetown does not have a single senior on theirs. However, Georgetown still has one of the elite coaches in college basketball in John Thompson III, who enters his 9th season at the helm of the Hoyas’ program. The key player for the Hoyas is sophomore forward Otto Palmer, who was an honorable-mention for the Associated Press All-American team. Palmer will present a difficult matchup for the 3-guard lineup that Florida will start the game with.
