Virginia Tech unveiled their specialty helmets for the 2012 Russell Athletic Bowl against Rutgers. The helmets are matte maroon and include a ribbon on the back in support of the recent shooting victims in Newtown, Connecticut. The Hokies feel a unique bond to the victims following the tragedy on the Va Tech campus several years ago.
