The best of the best of the college game in 2012 put their skills to the test at the 2013 NFL Combine in Indianapolis. While the running backs in the building were not as highly rated as a group as the offensive linemen, for example, there were several looking to bump themselves into the first few rounds with a great performance.
Wake Forest’s Tommy Bohanon led the way by bench pressing 225 pounds a whopping 36 times. Arkansas’ Knile Davis and Texas A&M’s Christine Michael both missed significant time during the season with injuries but impressed with big lifts.
Kenjon Barner was a Doak Walker Award finalist, and despite his smallish frame (5-foot-11, 198) impressed with 20 reps.
Two guys who really hurt themselves were Florida’s Mike Gillislee and Wisconsin’s Montee Ball. Gilly is supposed to be a bruising-type back, and Ball’s 40-yard dash time (4.66) necessitated a big strength showing on the bench. However, both tied for last with a mere 15 reps.
