2013 Florida Gators recruiting: Defensive tackle recruit Caleb Brantley decommits

A behemoth of a high schooler, Caleb Brantley originally committed to play for coach Will Muschamp’s Gators way back in February of 2012, according to Alligator Army. He was the second longest committed recruit in the class of 2013 for Florixa.

However, Brantley announced only two days into 2013 that he no longer was committed to playing for the Orange and Blue. By the looks of his text, the youngster was excited about making his announcement.

His decision, unfortunately, leaves the Gators remarkably thin at defensive tackle in an otherwise stellar recruiting class. With fifth-year senior Omar Hunter graduating after the Sugar Bowl and stellar defensive end/tackle Sharrif Floyd entering the NFL Draft as a junior, there is opportunity for playing time to the highly qualified, regardless of age.

However, as of writing, the Gators only have junior college transfer Darious Cummings coming in to supplement Florida’s current crop of interior defensive linemen.

Two prep stars could help offset the potential loss of Brantley in four-star Demarcus Walker and five-star Montravius Adams. Walker, in spite of his current commitment to Alabama, is reportedly set to visit Gainesville on Saturday. Adams will be joining him, but he is not going to decide on a school until February.

Brantley still may decide to lace ‘em up in The Swamp, but right now Florida State is also on his board.
