Star 2014 QB David Cornwell has sights set on Alabama Crimson Tide despite other offers

Recruiting of quarterbacks generally takes far less time than other positions on a football field. Basically, college football recruiting is a numbers game, and generally speaking, those numbers are not in the favor of elite signal-callers.

Most programs only like to bring aboard one quarterback per year. Bringing in two or even more creates a logjam at the position, whereas teams generally need as many linemen and running backs as they can get their hands on.

Thus, despite the fact the 2014 National Signing Day is more than a year away, elite high school passer and ESPN Watch List member David Cornwell has already made it known where he would like his loyalty to lie.

The Norman, Okla. native has Alabama at the top of his list, not Oklahoma.

“Alabama is definitely one of my top teams right now, if not the top,” Cornwell told Andrew Bone of TideSports.com. “I am really not trying to put a top five out there right now, but Alabama is definitely on that list with a couple of others.

I am very high on Alabama right now,” Cornwell said. “I also really like UCLA. Tennessee sent me 14 handwritten letters this week. I like Virginia Tech. I like coach Scott Loeffler a lot. Those are the four I really like right now. Those are four schools that are great. I’m honored for them to consider me.”

Cornwell, at 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds, is seen as one of the top pocket passers in the 2014 class.

One great reason Tide fans may feel like pointing and laughing is the fact that the young man has already garnered a scholarship offer from Auburn. Plenty may still change over the next year, but it’s interesting (read: Hilarious) that Cornwell never once mentions the Tigers.

He also has offers on the table from Virginia Tech, whom he mentions as a possible destination, as well as Miami, Indiana, Oklahoma State and others.
