Nick Saban motivating players with “The Promise” from Tim Tebow

No. 1 Alabama will square off against unranked Ole Miss this weekend in Tuscaloosa on their “Road to 15.” The lack of a ranking next to the Rebels’ name isn’t stopping Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban from treating this game like it’s the BCS title.

Four years ago, the Tim Tebow led No. 1-ranked Florida Gators were knocked off at home by an unranked Ole Miss team, proving that anything can happen.

From that game came one of the most iconic college football moments over the last decade: The Promise. Tebow took the podium in the post-game press conference and promised the entire Florida Gators family that he would never let the team down again. Long story short, he didn’t, as the Gators cruised to another national championship in 2008.

Saban is a master at keeping his players motivated. This game is a cake-walk for Alabama, and probably won’t be closer than 40 points; however, Saban won’t let his team walk into Bryant-Denny Stadium thinking the game is already in the bag.

Dee Milliner on watching The Promise (via AL.com), “We watch that during our workouts. They’ll have it playing. Then we’ll come in in certain groups and watch it. We’re trying to not let it be us that same way that happened to them. We’re not trying to make it have a loss and then we have to give a big speech after it because we lost the game.”
