Well-respected insider NFL source, Jay Glazer, has reported that Alex Smith is going to be traded from the San Francisco 49ers to the Kansas City Chiefs.
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can’t be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I’m told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

The saga of former No. 1-overall draft pick Smith has been well-documented over the last several years. The Niners chose him over Aaron Rodgers, and while Rodgers went on to lead the Green Bay Packers to a Super Bowl win, Smith languished by the Bay.
Then the franchise brought in Jim Harbaugh, a former NFL quarterback himself, as the team’s next head coach. Smith blossomed under Harbaugh’s tutelage and was one of the highest-rated quarterbacks in the league in 2012 when he was knocked out mid-season against the Rams.
He was diagnosed with a concussion, and was forced to sit out the next week’s game. Harbaugh turned to his backup, second-year man Colin Kaepernick, and neither coach nor new starter ever looked back.
San Francisco finally earned a trip to the Super Bowl, but Smith was carrying a clipboard.
The emergence of Kaepernick made Smith expendable, and this year’s poor college quarterbacking crop made him an extremely hot commodity. Kansas City has been looking for a replacement for the disappointing Matt Cassel and looks to have scored one in bringing in Smith.
According to Fansided, the Chiefs will be giving the 49ers a second-round pick for the both the 2013 and 2014 NFL Drafts in exchange for Smith.
After several days of swirling rumors, it looks like we will be seeing Smith in red next year, just in a different shade and in an entirely new city.
