Old Dominion QB Taylor Heinicke breaks Steve McNair’s FCS passing yards record

Only a sophomore, Old Dominion’s Taylor Heinicke has passed himself into some extremely rarefied territory.
In fact, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound sophomore has done something no one has ever done before.
In the Monarchs’ FCS playoff game against Georgia Southern, Heinicke dominated, completing 31-of-44 passes for a whopping 422 yards in a losing effort, 49-35.
The total yardage gave him more than 5,000 passing yards in 2012, making him the only quarterback in the history of the FCS to crack the 5,000-yard plateau. His efforts allowed him to break the record of 4,863 yards set by Alcorn State’s Steve McNair for FCS quarterbacks.
“Air” McNair went on to win the 1994 Walter Payton Award as the nation’s top FCS player before spending the majority of his 13 NFL seasons with the Tennessee Titans.
