Consensus All-American and the nation’s leading rusher may have far more to worry about this offseason than simply two-a-day practices or film room sessions.

The Arizona Wildcats’ superstar running back, Ka’Deem Carey, may find himself in some really hot water with the law.

According to Jennifer Thomas of AzFamily.com, on December 23, Carey tried to get into his pregnant ex-girlfriend’s house to grab a lighter to smoke ‘something’. The ex not only would not give him the lighter, but actually would not let him into her apartment at all.

According to Tucson police, Carey was trying to get into his pregnant ex-girlfriend’s house to get a lighter to smoke drugs. She wouldn’t let him inside so he allegedly pushed the woman down and then slammed the door on her hand.

In response, Carey tried to get a restraining order against the 23-year-old ex-girlfriend and her mother, but that request was denied.

His head coach, Rich Rodriguez, enjoyed a surprisingly successful first year at ‘Zona, in large part due to Carey’s superstar play. He issued a statement regarding the incident.

“I’ve spoken with Ka’Deem and am aware of the case. We take these matters very seriously and will support the authorities however we can. Once more specific information is available, we will act accordingly.”

Arizona athletic director, Greg Byrne, was also quick to confirm the school’s full cooperation with the police investigation.

“The University and Department of Athletics are fully aware of the situation. This is now a matter for the local authorities and we will fully cooperate and assist them as needed. At this point we will have no further comment.”

His original court date had been set for Thursday. However, according to Daniel Bark of the Arizona Daily Star, Carey’s case has been postponed. It will now likely be moved to early next week, but nothing has been finalized.

Carey was the nation’s leading rusher in 2012, piling up 1,929 yards on the ground. He also led the nation in average yards per game with 148.4 and scored 24 total touchdowns.
