Alabama fan beaten and bloodied by Crimson Tide players still loves his football team

The Alabama student who was beaten until he lost consciousness by two Tide football players has made a very interesting statement regarding the program he cheers for.

We could not figure out which opening line to go with, so we’re going to try out a couple of them. First, well, did you consider yourself a die-hard fan? Because you won’t anymore.

Second, it looks like winning might just actually cure anything.

Samuel Jergens was accosted by Eddie Williams and Tyler Hayes — allegedly — before Williams, Hayes and two other freshmen were all arrested for second-degree robbery and fraudulent use of a credit card.

The credit card was Jergens’.

However, Jergens is still a Bama fan, according to Melissa Brown of The Crimson White.

“This was just a matter of chance. I’m still gonna love Alabama football. I just want to deal with this case, move on with my life,” Jurgens said. “I just want to get on with my education. I want to continue being happy here. I was happy here before, and I will continue being happy here.”

This is a very zen approach to his attack, of course. However the effects of the beating will be felt far longer than that.

Also according to The Crimson White, Williams and Hayes could face felony assault charges for their actions.

“His left side of his face was gigantic,” Burks said. “The jacket he was wearing and his headphones were completely drenched in blood, the bottom half of his face was completely covered in blood; he was bleeding badly from his lip. He had clearly been badly beaten.”

One could say Jergens was left like Alabama’s stingy defense leaves opposing offenses — zing!

But in all seriousness, most folks would never be able to forgive everything associated with the people who beat them without explanation. These players represent something far larger than themselves in the Alabama Crimson Tide, a proud school and football program loaded with history and accolades in more than simply athletics.

That being said, a couple championships certainly don’t hurt.

Especially in keeping young Jergens’ fanhood intact.
