When most basketball coaches get mad, there are red faces, there is spit flying in all directions, and there are generally enough curse words to make the Boondocks Saints blush.

However, very rarely are there suit jackets landing in the stands.

Most basketball coaches don’t get as mad as UCLA’s Ben Howland did after his star player, Shabazz Muhammad, got called for his second offensive foul of the night in the Bruins’ Pac-12 Tournament Championship showdown against Oregon.

The very worst part?

Howland lost what we are going to presume was a very nice jacket, and that wasn’t even the biggest loss of the night: UCLA, the Pac-12 regular season champions, lost to the Ducks, 78-69, keeping Howland’s squad from taking both conference titles.

Afterward, according to USA Today, he was obviously contrite:

“I was very embarrassed by that to lose my composure. It’s a terrible example for our team to have their coach behave in such a manner. We’re always going to have bad calls. I definitely thought that wasn’t a call that was called correctly, but you’re going to have calls like that. …I told the team at halftime and after the game that that was a terrible example for them. We have to play through adversity. We’ve done a great job all season long with all sorts of adversity.”

That’s a nice quote right there. Howland covered all of his bases, saying that he is “embarrassed” and that his actions set a “terrible example” for the team.

He’s right, but we guarantee players and fans (and well, everyone) are going to be talking about this GIF instead of that quote.
