The Duke Blue Devils dominated the Clemson Tigers on Tuesday night, 68-40, but the big win may have come at an even bigger cost.
Senior forward Ryan Kelly has been sidelined indefinitely after sustaining a right foot injury in the game, according to ESPN. As of Thursday, there is no timetable for his return to the hardcourt.
“We feel very badly for Ryan,” Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said. “He is playing the best basketball of his career and this is a tough setback for him. We’re hoping for a good recovery and we are optimistic about his return.”
Last March, Kelly hurt the same foot, forcing him to sit out both the ACC and the NCAA Tournaments. He had tweaked it recently, over the holidays, but played in the first half against the Tigers, scoring 12 points before sitting out the second half.
For the nation’s No. 1-ranked team, Kelly is averaging 13.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game. He had scored in double figures in 13 of Duke’s 15 games.
The undefeated Blue Devils take on the No. 20 NC State Wolfpack on Saturday.
