The 2013 college basketball season was predictably unpredictable. The nation’s preseason player of the year, Cody Zeller, put together a great season for a great Indiana team, but simply did not dominate in the manner he was expected too.

On the other hand, Georgetown was never expected to break into the realm of the elite, but rather to simply perform well in the final year of the Big East as we know it and then earn an average seed in the NCAAs. That was before the emergence of Otto Porter Jr., who did it all for a Georgetown squad that earned a share of the conference crown and a No. 2-seed in the Dance.

CBS Sports thus named Mr. Porter their 2013 Player of the Year, while naming his coach, John Thompson III, the nation’s Coach of the Year.
