Connecticut high school girls basketball team recreates Bryce Drew’s buzzer beater
High school basketball teams needing a huge play have been turning to some of the most iconic moments in college basketball history.
Recently, a Michigan team recreated Duke’s Grant Hill to Christian Laettner play and now a Connecticut team has dug into the Valparaiso playbook.
With just 3.8 seconds left and down two, Mercy players Sheena Landy, Cassie Santoro and Maria Weselyj combined to bring Bryce Drew’s buzzer-beater from the 1998 Valparaiso vs Ole Miss game back to life.
Had the shot not fallen, Mercy would have lost their fourth consecutive state title game, according to The Middletown Press.
For comparison, here’s Bryce Drew’s buzzer-beater to lift 13th-seeded Valpo over 4th-seeded Ole Miss.
