Texas quarterback Connor Brewer arrested for public intoxication

It is just not that easy being a Texas Longhorns quarterback these days. On Friday night, redshirt freshman Connor Brewer was arrested for public intoxication and possession of alcohol by a minor, according to Geoff Ketchum of Orangebloods.com.

That crazy part of Brewer’s situation is that he is not the first or the second Horns quarterback to find himself in some pretty hot water since Texas’ regular season ended.

Prior to the Longhorns’ Alamo Bowl showdown against Oregon State, backup Case McCoy (yes, the younger brother of Colt) was accused of sexually assaulting a woman in his hotel room. He was sent home and was thus not able to play in the game.

That was a bad situation, obviously, but McCoy’s actions as well as those of Brewer have been overshadowed by those of their mentor, co-offensive coordinator, and fellow Horns signal caller Major Applewhite.

On Friday, it was announced that Applewhite, who played quarterback from 1998-2001, had had an improper relationship with a student prior to the Fiesta Bowl in 2009.

Brewer, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound native of Scottsdale, Arizona, did not see the field in 2012. However, he came ranked as the No. 130-overall player in the country out of high school, and is expected to compete for a backup spot behind David Ash in 2013.

That is, if coach Mack Brown can corral all of his quarterbacks before the season kicks off.
