Donald Driver surprises longtime fan

Donald Driver is, simply by the count of his receiving numbers, one of the greatest players in Green Bay Packers’ history. That is no small feat, considering the franchise is one of the oldest in the game and the only one remaining in a relatively small town.

There will never be a basketball or baseball team in Green Bay, but the town, and its down-home superfans, will always have their Packers.

Unfortunately, they will not always have their Driver, who retired following 14 seasons in the league, all in Green Bay. Time and again during his tenure, the hard worker with the 1,000-watt smile proved to be a class act both on and off the field.

While he won’t be seen on the field anymore, he was spotted near Green Bay, in Bellevue, proving that he will never lose the spirit that made him a fan favorite.

Before hopping on a plane with his family to his native Dallas, Driver stopped in at the home of one of his biggest fans, 78-year old cancer survivor Angie LeRoy. Fittingly, Driver knocked on a door with a poster commemorating his retirement, and LeRoy answered it — totally unaware of the situation — in none other than a Donald Driver jersey.

All she wanted was a hug, but the multi-millionare went above and beyond. He took the time, as opposed to simply posturing for a camera and peace’ing out, to autograph everything in sight. Further, he helped to score her a ticket to his retirement announcement.

Basically, the guy is a legend in Green Bay, and unlike the man who tossed him the majority of his career passes in Brett Favre, Driver went out with class — both in his retirement and his actions immediately afterwards.
