Elvis Dumervil released by Denver Broncos following botched fax
There’s never a dull moment in NFL free agency and the events that unravelled involving Elvis Dumervil and the Denver Broncos may be the moment that marks this year’s offseason signing period.
The Broncos wanted Dumervil to take a pay cut, from $12 to $8 million, and in the last 35 minutes before the 4:00 E.T. cutoff, he had agreed to the salary reduction, according to Mike Klis of the Denver Post.
Dumervil’s fax agreeing to the new deal, however, didn’t arrive until 4:07 E.T. The Broncos needed the paperwork by 3:59 E.T. and when that time arrived and nothing came through the fax, Denver had no choice but to release Dumervil.
I’m serious. Contract was not filed by 1:59 p.m. Elvis Dumervil informed Broncos he was taking the new deal at 1:25.

Broncos didn’t get fax with Elvis Dumervil signature on contract until 2:07 p.m. — 7 minutes and 1 second past the deadline!

Dumervil now falls into the free agent waters and could potentially re-sign with the Broncos, however, other teams are now able to contact him, meaning he could be offered more money than what the Broncos were willing to pay him.
