Florida Gators win heavy recruiting battle for WR Demarcus Robinson

| January 7, 2013 at 12:50 pm | 3 Comments

Oh, kids these days.

Battles over recruits can get sticky at times — especially when the recruit in question is a high school student busy tweeting or playing video games or chatting up girls or whatever else teenagers get themselves into.

Finally, on Monday morning, the Florida Gators came out on top in a convoluted battle for the services of prized four-star wide receiver Demarcus Robinson.

A longtime commit of the Clemson Tigers, Robinson flipped to the Gators on December 12, only to change his mind back to the Tigers five days later.

[Full timeline of Robinson's decision-making process]

After heading to the Under Armour All-America game over the weekend, Robinson told anxious members of the media that he had once again re-opened his college search, and now with Notre Dame in the mix. No matter what his choice, Robinson told the reporters that he would have an answer for the world come Monday or Tuesday.

The weekend came and went, and Robinson held true to his word (this time) and provided his answer.

The ESPN300 recruit is also ranked the No. 48-overall recruit in the nation by Rivals.com. He becomes the highest-rated wideout to come to Gainesville since Andre Debose, at No. 21-nationally, in 2009.

Robinson joins fellow four-star recruits in Ahmad Fulwood (Jacksonville, FL) and Alvin Bailey (Seffner, FL), as well as three-stars Marqui Hawkins (Columbus, GA) and Chris Thompson(Gainesville, FL) as wide receivers in the class.

This is undoubtedly a huge pickup for coach Will Muschamp and his newly hired wide receivers coach, Joker Phillips. Phillips, the former head man at Kentucky, was tabbed as one of the primary reasons Robinson considered Florida in the first place.

Further, with the loss of leading pass-catcher, tight end Jordan Reed, to the NFL Draft, and receiver Frankie Hammond Jr. to graduation, redshirt sophomore Quinton Dunbar could use some support.

The Gators lost their fourth underclassman to the NFL Draft on Monday
