Former Michigan State QB Kirk Cousins loses bet, sports Nebraska shirt
College rivalries never die.
Michigan State alum Kirk Cousins is now a member of the Washington Redskins, backing up star quarterback Robert Griffin III.
DeJon Gomes is a safety with the same Redskins, but he did his undergrad studies (read: played football) at the University of Nebraska.
Now that the Cornhuskers have joined the Big Ten after spending generations as members of the Big 12, a new rivalry has been born, and Cousins is now the grudge-match’s latest victim.
Cousins and Gomes made a bet before their two schools faced off on Saturday and Nebraska brought the victory back to Lincoln, so Cousins was forced to make good.
What do two guys on an NFL salary actually wager?
Something much more publicly humiliating than money: Cousins had to sport Nebraska gear not simply for one day, but for an entire week.
Ouch.
Of course, Cousins, who was drafted in the fourth round only to sit behind the No. 2-overall draft pick, has gotten plenty of practice at finding the silver lining in anything.
“It’s all in fun,” the rookie said. “And if I get a free t-shirt out of it, then I win.”
What’s the rookie wage again these days?
