Nick Saban was forced to deal with something he did not expect to upon waking up on Tuesday morning.

On Monday night, four freshman members of the Alabama Crimson Tide football program started the team’s 2013 offseason out in an inauspicious manner, getting arrested for second-degree robbery and fraudulent use of a credit card.

The players were released on bonds of varying prices, but they were not able to escape punishment from their school and program.

After embarrassing the Crimson and White, athletic director Mal Moore released a statement expressing his disappointment and regret over the players’ actions. Only a little while later, legendary coach Saban expressed similar, extremely disappointed sentiment.

The young men charged are indefinitely suspended as we continue to gather information and talk to the appropriate people. The University and football program have strict guidelines regarding issues of this magnitude. This behavior is unacceptable for any student-athlete at the University of Alabama and not representative of our football program.

One, DJ Pettway, was named to the All-SEC freshman team. However, he may never suit up for the Tide again.

However, he, along with his three teammates, may have far bigger and more immediate worries than simply stepping back onto a football field again.

All four face felony charges for their actions.
