Missouri coach Frank Haith facing NCAA allegations for involvement with Nevin Shapiro

| January 21, 2013 at 10:19 pm | 5 Comments

Missouri head coach Frank Haith is reportedly under fire from the NCAA. According to ESPN, Haith is facing allegations of “unethical conduct and failure to promote an atmosphere of compliance” from his time at the University of Miami.

Haith was the head coach of the Miami Hurricanes from 2004-11, before taking over the same position with the Missouri Tigers.

The allegations are tied to former Hurricanes’ booster Nevin Shapiro, who is currently serving a 20-year sentence in prison for orchestrating a $930 million Ponzi scheme. Haith reportedly used university money to pay Nevin Shapiro, as well as provide air travel to two players and allow Shapiro to interact with players during recruiting trips.

Haith has yet to receive a notice from the NCAA, but according to CBS, that notice could come by the end of this week. CBS has also reported that three other former Miami coaches could also be reprimanded for the violations: Jake Morton of Western Kentucky, Michael Schwartz of Fresno State, and Jorge Fernandez.

Once Haith does receive the notice, he will have 90 days to respond to the NCAA. The NCAA could then take up to six months to respond with the punishments to be levied.

As far as Missouri goes, it is their decision whether or not to keep Haith on as their coach should he receive any punishments.

We will keep you updated here with any new information that surfaces.
