Gators deserve a shot at the BCS Championship Game

Give our boy some love! (Melina Vastola-US PRESSWIRE)

It’s been quiet around Gator Nation with regards to national championship talk. Quieter than what we would have experienced in year’s past. I think Florida fans understand the fact that we blew our chance at the title game when we lost to Georgia.

Is it necessarily fair? Yes and no.

Yes, we did blow our chance. No, because we have a better resume than anyone in the country, even including undefeated Notre Dame.

Would we beat Notre Dame? Yes.

Would we beat Georgia in round two? Yes.

Would we beat Alabama? Yes.

This team, even with it’s current No. 4-ranking, is not only the most underrated team in the country, but is also the best. Hands down.

Ask ESPN’s Chris Low, who had the following to say on the boys from ‘ol Florida:

It’s hard to argue with Will Muschamp’s assessment following Florida’s win over Florida State. The Gators, based on what they’ve accomplished this season, are as deserving as anyone to be playing for the national championship. Their résumé is better than anybody else’s in college football with wins over No. 7 LSU, No. 9 Texas A&M, No. 10 South Carolina and No. 13 Florida State. Their only loss was a close one (17-9) to No. 3 Georgia. The Gators have made a living of winning ugly in some games, but their body of work speaks for itself.

Notre Dame has a nice defense and all, but I’ll take our boys any day. Offense wise, well, let’s just say that we match up evenly.

We stomped the team that stomped Georgia. We handled the team that wrecked Alabama. We pushed LSU around like school children. And, last but not least, we took the “will” from Florida State and shoved it down the toilet.

We won’t get that title shot, and frankly, I don’t think many in Gator Nation are griping, given the fact that this season was somewhat of a surprise.

But, let’s not forget, we just witnessed one of the greatest seasons in Florida football history, and with a team as deserving as any in the nation, there is still an empty feeling at the bottom of all of our stomachs.

More from The Swamp >> A truly sweet victory for the Florida Gators and Gator Nation
