Giancarlo Stanton, Miami Marlins’ best player, drilled in head by fastball [Video]

Following Miami’s putrid first season in its shiny new baseball stadium, the organization, well, pulled a Miami. In true Marlins fashion, the team’s front office just started giving high-priced players away.

Pretty much the only guy left was slugging outfielder Giancarlo Stanton. However, the team’s only hope at scoring any runs in 2013 (not to mention selling any tickets) is now being chased — not out of town, but out of the batter’s box.

Spring Training opened up across baseball recently, and pitchers’ arms are obviously a little rusty. Stanton got cracked in the dome by the Marlins’ top pitching prospect, Jose Fernandez. Miami selected him with their top pick in 2011 draft.

Obviously, those making the selections were hoping for a little more friendly introduction between two guys they would actually like to keep in South Beach for more than a matter of months.

But afterwards, Fernandez was immediately apologetic, and Stanton’s head, most importantly, was totally fine.

“Right when I came in, I talked with him,” Fernandez said. “When I asked him how he’s doing, he laughed. He said he is fine. I told him, I’m sorry. You know, nobody is trying to hit anybody. Same team and everything. He just laughed, said, ‘Bro, it’s baseball. It happens.’”

Indeed it does. Stanton will have a few x-rays taken just as a precaution. However, he is not expected to miss any time.
