Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt and his city planners are moving closer to having a street named for the legendary and recently retired Packers star Donald Driver, according to the Press Gazzette.

Exactly how enthusiastically has the city embraced the idea of giving Driver his own street? The city’s planning commission voted unanimously on Monday to rename a portion of Pearl Street, “Donald Driver Way”.

One of the Plan Commission’s members, Linda Queoff, was unequivocal in her support of everything Driver did for both the franchise and the community since being drafted in 1999.

“We’re fortunate to have him,” Queoff said. “And we’ll always remember him.”

The plans for the street were first announced during Driver’s retirement ceremony on Feb. 6. Apparently, the legend had originally wanted “Donald Driver Lane” instead of “Way”, but called the mayor’s office to give his approval the day before the ceremony.

We are thrilled for Driver, of course. His 1,000-watt smile and various charitable works have made him a staple of Green Bay’s Packer-obsessed, small-town community.

But we are a little disappointed — we couldn’t have gotten a “Donald Driver Drive” out of the deal?

Just kidding, congrats Driver!
