Aggies’ Jameill Showers to transfer from Texas A&M, where’s he headed?

Life was fantastic for just about every single member of the 12th Man in 2012. Under the leadership of redshirt freshman Johnny Manziel, the Aggies enjoyed the program’s most wins since 1998, and all of College Station ‘whooped’ with joy when Johnny Football was named the first frosh to ever win the Heisman Trophy.
However, there was one sad face in Aggieland as the final whistle sounded on Manziel’s record-setting Cotton Bowl performance.
After seeing the field in extremely limited time as a true freshman, Jameill Showers entered the 2012 offseason in a heated battle with Manziel for the starting position on Kevin Sumlin’s squad. He was just narrowly beaten out with only a week or so until A&M’s Week 1 showdown against Florida.

And the rest, as they say, is history.
Manziel went on to win the awards while Showers, with all of ability in the world, watched the wins pile up from the sidelines. Thus, in a move he himself described as ‘bittersweet’ due to his love for the campus, the fans and everything else that went into his experience as a member of the Aggies football program, Showers has announced that he will transfer and suit up for another school in the fall.
Reports are that Showers is currently looking at Baylor, Texas Tech, Cal and Arizona State.
Baylor’s Nick Florence and Texas Tech’s Seth Doege are both out of eligibility, meaning that, at the very least, Showers will once again be able to compete for the starting spot. Further, both schools are in Texas, making the potential move far easier. Cal also loses a senior quarterback, but is obviously not very close in terms of proximity.
The same cannot be said for Arizona State, which currently boasts a freshman and a sophomore gunning for the full-time role in 2013.
Showers, having made his announcement on Monday, is still very much in the early stages of his school search. It remains to be seen whether or not he cares about location or roster competition.
However, one thing is certain: Showers is going to pour all he can into earning the starting job — he owes that much to himself.
