Current Volunteers coach Derek Dooley has been fired, effectively immediately, with one game remaining in the season.
[Vols fans seem like they're pretty sick of Dooley as it is]
Looks like that hot seat must have been scalding for some time before this firing because former Super Bowl-winning coach and current Monday Night Football announcer Jon Gruden has already been listed as the current coach in Knoxville.
Despite boasting two NFL-caliber wide receivers and a quarterback with a legendary arm, Dooley’s defense has given up an embarrassing amount of points on its way to an 0-7 start to SEC play.
This has left a sour taste in the mouths of Vols everywhere, of course, and now that the only team left on its schedule is Kentucky (who fired their own coach, Joker Phillips, ages ago but will let him finish out the year) the time has come for these rumors to grow some legs.
Or perhaps it is a way for the Tennessee athletic department to get Gruden’s attention in the first place.
Whatever the case may be, check out the very first sentence in his introduction, and draw your own conclusions, college football – and specifically Tennessee – fans.
