According to the Clarion Ledger, coach Hugh Freeze has managed to reel in yet another elite recruit to Oxford. Four-star running back Jordan Wilkins, a native of Memphis, has verbally committed to play for the Rebels.

Wilkins is the fifth back to commit to Ole Miss in the 2013 recruiting cycle, inching the program ever closer to a top 10 recruiting class while giving Freeze a wealth of talent out of his future backfield.

At 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds, Wilkins already has the size to make an impact in the SEC. Not only is he the fifth running back overall to join the Rebels in 2013, but he is the third in the top 25 at the position to join Freeze and Co.

Recruiting expert Bill Tucker breaks down Wilkins’ game:

The Tennessee native has arguably the best load-back and every-down potential out of the plethora of backs pledged to the Rebels in this terrific class. Wilkins has 200-pound plus size with a good combination of strength and speed and a decisive downhill running style that translate well to the college level. Wilkins does not project to be a homerun threat in the SEC but he has some wiggle to his frame and can be shifty through traffic for a taller back and get through smaller seams. His upside is as a power runner though as we feel his frame should continue to fill out and assist his already good balance and yards after contact production.

Besides Wilkins, Freeze is bringing aboard Mark Dodson, Eugene Brazley, Kailo Moore and Peyton Barber. Barber, however, is taking one last visit prior to National Signing Day. His last-gasp trip to Auburn, coupled with the commitment of Wilkins, could translate to the flip to The Plains from Barber.

Freeze, these talented new recruits, and the rest of the staff and team are all waiting anxiously for Signing Day. Along with the finalization of Barber’s commitment, or lack thereof, the program is seen as the frontrunner for the services of No. 1-overall national recruit, Robert Nkemdiche.

Wilkins also had offers on the table from Vanderbilt, Michigan and Wisconsin, among others.
