Louisville’s Sugar Bowl win gives them more SEC victories than UK, UT and Auburn (combined)

No, that title is not at all a misprint.

Charlie Strong’s Cardinals book-ended their storybook season with wins over two SEC programs. Way back on September 2, Louisville asserted its in-state dominance by crushing Kentucky, 32-14 — the Cardinals basketball team has since done the same.

On Wednesday night in the Superdome in New Orleans, the stakes were much higher, and the competition was much tougher. However, against the Florida Gators in the BCS Sugar Bowl, the outcome was nearly the same: 33-23, in favor of Loo-ville.

Thus, the co-champs of the Big East finish out the 2012-13 season 11-2 overall, 5-2 in their conference, and 2-0 against the seemingly indomitable SEC.

How did Auburn finish in the SEC in 2012? 0-8.

Kentucky? 0-8.

Tennessee? 1-7, its only win coming against — you guessed it — Kentucky.

Thus, the Cardinals’ two wins against Southeastern Conference foes gives them more than the once-proud programs of Auburn and Tennessee (throwing in Kentucky as well) combined.

Definitely negative points for the SEC on the whole.

Score one for the flailing Big East, and for the ever-improving ACC, as Louisville is scheduled to join their new conference in 2014.
