Les Miles still has his sights set on one last 2013 recruit for the Tigers

There truly is no end to the college football recruiting cycle. One day after the nation’s top 2013 recruits celebrated signing their Letters of Intent with friends and family and sometimes on live television, Les Miles and his LSU staff are back on their cell phones.

That is, of course, because there are still literally three members of the 2013 ESPN300 that have not yet signed an offer sheet. Oh yeah, and one of them just so happens to be living in the state of Louisiana.

Tevin Lawson, of Denham Spring, is the sixth-rated offensive guard in the entire nation. The 6-foot-4, 275-pound four-star big man was a long time Tigers commit but rescinded his verbal in order to reassess his options. He was not expected to sign with anyone on Wednesday, National Signing Day.

Obviously, he will eventually have to decide on his school of choice. He visited Louisiana-Lafayette a few days prior to Signing Day, and he has also been offered scholarships from Kentucky, Louisiana Tech, Oklahoma State, Southern Miss and TCU.

Unfortunately, if he wants to play for an SEC team come fall, he may have to leave the state. The reason Lawson de-committed from LSU in the first place was because Miles wanted him to grayshirt.

Thus, LSU remains in the hunt as his original favorite. The young man seems to simply need extra time to decide whether or not he will grayshirt — meaning he would not be able to enroll in college as full time students, can’t receive their scholarship, nor practice until after the 2013 football season is over.

“‘LSU has not dropped him,” Denham Springs head coach Dru Nettles said. ‘They really want him, but they just want him to grayshirt.’

Nettles said this has been emphasized in conversations with LSU coaches, including head coach Les Miles, since the day the offer has changed.

‘It’s still an option,’ he said. ‘It’s still a good offer. Tevin’s going to have to review it and see what the best offer for him is.’”

And you thought the college football season ended with the BCS title game on Jan. 7.
