Manny Ramirez’ introduction to new Taiwanese baseball team is just slightly over-the-top [Video]
When Manny Ramirez was introduced by his new baseball team, he was given the type of treatment one might expect of one of baseball’s most prolific sluggers. However, that introduction was provided by the EDA Rhinos, of Taiwan’s Chinese Professional Baseball League, and it was done while most folks Stateside were sleeping thanks to the massive time differential.
Manny Ramirez is 40 years old. Unfortunately at this point in his career, the former Red Sox slugger was unable to land a gig in the Majors for the 2013 season.
Thus, he signed on with the Rhinos, who will pay him a cool $25,000 a month for his services.
It’s an exciting time, bringing a guy like Ramirez across the ocean. And yes, if you were wondering, it is a publicity stunt, and yes, the organization is milking it for all it’s worth.
Don’t take our word for it, just check out the introductory press conference, complete with a massive HD screen and fountains.
