There was only 97 seconds remaining between these two interstate rivals and the Mountaineers were enjoying a seven point lead after Deniz Kelichli had drained a layup.
That was when some underlying, game-long tensions finally boiled over and a certain foot flew upwards into a certain opposition groin.
That’s a big no-no, whether you’re in kindergarten or college.
After the kick there was a lot of blustering and brew-ha-ha, but luckily nothing more came of the kick to the non-kick area.
Until, of course, Kelichli got a chance to hop in front of a microphone after the game.
“They are the guys who want to be in our spot,” he told MetroNews. “We are West Virginia — we are the state’s team. We have proven it over and over again. We are the ones playing the big-time schedule. We’ve got higher recruits.
“We can’t get into all that pushing, shoving and talking trash. We can’t get into that.”
