No. 1 LB Matthew Thomas commits to Florida State

The Florida State Seminoles and head coach Jimbo Fisher, fresh off a BCS Orange Bowl win, faced an unbelievable amount of attrition entering the 2013 offseason. Just about every assistant coach had left for a bigger gig, causing a stir amongst some of the top recruits in the nation.

Come National Signing Day, however, that all changed as Fisher reeled in stud linebacker Matthew Thomas. The Booker T. Washington prospect out of Miami, FL is ranked as the No. 1 outside linebacker and No. 6-overall player, according to ESPN Recruiting Nation.

Following the lateral movement of former FSU offensive coordinator James Coley to rival Miami, it was believed that Coley was going to be able to lock down the Miami-area recruits for the Canes, even with the short time left. Fisher and the new staff were still able to close on Thomas, a very good sign for the overall health of the program after all of the attrition.
