Superorganism: Noun. An group of organisms that functions as a single unit to complete tasks too complex for any single organism.

It is an unstoppable force.

It is a monster with five heads and 10 arms.

Alabama’s offensive line moves in unison with power and finesse, plowing over defenses.

It can only be classified as a Superorganism.

Off the field, Barrett Jones, Chance Warmack, Anthony Steen, D.J. Fluker, and Cyrus Kouandijo are five individuals. They have different goals and different lives.

On the field, they become one single unit with one single goal.

Saturday night in Death Valley, this unit executed flawlessly and achieved its goal.

The Crimson Tide’s O-line went toe-to-toe with LSU’s defense all night. Alabama’s 166 rushing yards can be credited to a unit that opened holes and gave defenders all they could handle. Alabama scored three touchdowns on LSU’s stingy defense and none of them would have been possible without an offensive line that is as talented and hardworking as Bama’s is.

Prior to running onto the field for Alabama’s final drive, Barrett Jones looked back at offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland and told him to not forget about the screen play. Four plays later, Alabama dialed it up for a finish that will forever rank among the best in Crimson Tide history.

These guys have worked hard all year long to come together for a game like they had against LSU. It wasn’t easy — but they did not panic and together found a way to grind it out in the end. That is the mark of a true champion.

It is still way too early to crown Alabama the champion of anything however, or to declare the Tide’s offensive line the greatest in team history.

What is clear though is that Alabama is in the midst of something special. The Crimson Tide is led by a group that shows heart and determination on every play, in every minute, of every game.

If they continue playing to this standard, they will be champions.

But for now, this Monday’s Man of the Hour will have to do.
