Ohio State coach Urban Meyer calls out the rest of the Big Ten for its terrible 2013 recruiting

Ohio State Buckeyes head football coach Urban Meyer has proven himself to be the big daddy of Big Ten recruiting after just one year in his new league. (Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports)

National Signing Day came and went, and as expected, the SEC dominated. In fact, only two Big Ten schools’ 2013 recruiting classes even finished amongst the nation’s top 10. Ohio State and Michigan both ranked in the top five or six (depending on your rankings of choice, that is), but who followed them from the B1G? Nebraska’s class came in next all the way down at No. 23.

The top three SEC schools all finished in the top five and 11 of its programs rounded out Wednesday’s Signing Day within the nation’s top 25.

Urban Meyer has shown that he already has his entire, new conference practically under his thumb. Meyer won two national titles by winning the cutthroat recruiting battles for the nation’s tip-top recruits while dominating the SEC at Florida, and he would at least like a challenge now that he’s in the Big Ten. The man finished 12-0 in his first year coaching, for Pete’s sake.

The gauntlet has been laid down. Going to the Little Caesar’s Bowl or the Car Care Bowl or whatever will not be acceptable for Meyer and his Buckeyes. He has made recruits understand that, and what young man does not want to play for a champion?
