Mike Stoops thinks Johnny ‘Football’ Manziel could be great if he doesn’t end up in jail
What do you do after you get curb-stomped by the one and only Johnny Football? Well, if you’re Alabama you go out and win a national championship with a curb stomping of your own. On the other hand, if you’re Oklahoma you decide to take a shot at the now-legendary QB.
During an interview with John E. Hoover on WWLS, Oklahoma Sooners defensive coordinator Mike Stoops had the following to say on Johnny Heisman:
Mike Stoops on WWLS: “If they can keep (Manziel) out of jail or keep him eligible, he’s gonna be pretty good.”#Sooners #Aggies #Gigem

M.Stoops on WWLS: “If they can keep (Manziel) off Twitter, he might win another #Heisman. He’s got that kind of ability.”#Aggies #Sooners — John E. Hoover (@johnehoover) January 11, 2013
M.Stoops on Manziel: “Never seen anything like that. Never felt as defenseless as we were the other night, thats for sure.”#Aggies #Sooners — John E. Hoover (@johnehoover) January 11, 2013
M.Stoops’ 2nd quote on Manziel: “If they can keep him off the Twitter, he might have 3-4 Heismans. He’ll have that type of ability.”#Aggies

There you have it, the most backhanded compliment of all time.
The Sooners, who underachieved yet again, were gutted by Manziel and his record-setting rushing performance of 229 yards. Stoops’ ego is undoubtedly still a little store from Manziel’s 516 total yards of offense and four touchdowns.
Manziel was arrested last summer for fighting and using a fake ID, but has stayed out of trouble ever since, even considering the semi-rockstar lifestyle he lives (model girlfriend, popping bottles, casino gambling).
Stoops may just want to focus on making his own team better instead of bashing other players that he can’t keep up with.
