New Pittsburgh Pirates logo in the works for 2014 MLB season, franchise to begin discussions

| February 7, 2013 at 1:12 pm | 0 Comments

The Pittsburgh Pirates have been mired in mediocrity for the better part of the last thirty years. In order to find a winning record from the team, one has to look back more than two decades to the 1992 season.

The franchise does have five World Series Titles under its belt (1979, 1971, 1960, 1925, 1909), but if you were to ask the majority of Pirates’ fans, they would have no clue what a playoff win looks like.

Over the past couple of seasons the Pirates have begun to work their way out of the cellar and into some form of a respectable franchise. The new attitude surrounding the team has reportedly triggered the franchise to start looking at the possibility of an updated logo/rebranding.

According to Josh Sanchez of FanSided.com:

The Pirates are looking to alter their logo for the 2014 season and discussions will begin next week.

Pittsburgh will invite a limited number of season ticket holders to focus groups so they can receive feedback and input from the fans while they look to potentially change the logo for 2014.

The Pirates have traditionally worn the following “P” as their primary logo.

It will be interesting to see what the Pirates come up with for a new look for the franchise.
