There’s always someone that has to complain and ruin the party. In this case, it’s Coca-Cola’s Super Bowl commercial party, and it’s an Arab-American group that believes that their latest advertisement is racist.
The commercial features a bus full of showgirls, a group of cowboys, Mad Max and an Arab walking camels in the desert. Doesn’t seem to bad on the surface, but according to Abed Ayoub, director of legal and policy affairs of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC), the Arab walking the camels is exactly the problem.
He is not included in the race and according to Ayoub (via NBANews.com), “By not including the Arab in the race, it is clear that the Arab is held to a different standard when compared to the other characters in the commercial.”
Imam Ali Siddiqui, president of the Muslim Institute for Interfaith Studies, also expressed feelings on the commercial, stating “The Coke commercial for the Super Bowl is racist, portraying Arabs as backward and foolish ‘Camel Jockeys,’ and they have no chance to win in the world,”
After reading the comments, and watching the video yourself, do you think the commercial is racist, or are these individuals just trying to raise a fuss over nothing? Sound off below!
