Ray Lewis III made his father proud on Wednesday, Feb. 6, aka National Signing Day for the 2013 college football recruiting cycle. The younger Lewis, in a ceremonial letter of intent signing at his high school, committed to the University of Miami, the place where his old man’s legacy began to build in earnest.

“I made a stand my junior year in college, the year he was born, that it was time for me to go to the league,” said Ray Lewis, according to Oregon Live. “Now the year that he’s walking into college I’ve made another stand that it’s time for me to leave the league. Him being born has been a factor in entering the league and leaving the league.”

It has been nothing but smiles for Lewis since his victorious retirement from the game of football. On Sunday, the 17-year Baltimore Ravens veteran went out a Super Bowl champion. Then, on Tuesday, and after being unable to break out his trademark “squirrel” dance at the big game, he performed for the hometown fans one last time during the Ravens’ victory parade.

Only 24 hours after he was able to soak in the applause and adoration of more than 200,000 screaming Baltimore fans, he was able to enjoy arguably the best moment of the entire first half of his very busy week.

Lewis got to be in attendance when his own son — the young man that, in Lewis’ own words, has affected every single day of his life since the day Lewis III was born — chose to play football at The U.

If that isn’t reason for a little swagger out of Canes Nation, we don’t know what is.
