Mother of Alex Collins steals his letter of intent on National Signing Day

Not all live press conferences announcing an elite high school recruit’s collegiate decision runs smoothly.

Only a few days prior to Wednesday’s National Signing Day, newly hired Arkansas coach Bret Bielema had managed to haul in the centerpiece of his 2013 recruiting class: Four-star running back and Florida native, Alex Collins.

Bielema has been very vocal in his desire to switch the Razorbacks’ offensive philosophies from that of a spread out, passing team to the hard-nosed rushing style his teams at Wisconsin were known for. Collins was, and is, expected to be the young man to make Bielema’s vision a Arkansas at reality.

However, Collins’ mother is certainly not convinced of that.

In fact, the young superstar’s mom was so upset over her son’s choice to head so far from home that she actually stole his letter of intent before he had a chance to sign it, sprinted out of the auditorium, and hid.

“His mother has confiscated the papers, she took them and she ran,” Corey Long said on ESPNU. “They’re looking for her currently. From what I understand Alex is not at the school right now, he’s looking for his mom. She was quite torn up about him leaving so far from home.”

Seriously, when your mother tells you how much she loves you, you had better believe it — and maybe tie your shoes up tight.

You never know when you’ll have to chase her down (and no, we never thought we would be talking about having to chase down your own mom — ever — but the world of college football recruiting is a strange, very strange, place).
