Big week for legendary Canes receivers

| October 10, 2012 at 9:40 pm | 0 Comments

Michael Hickey-US PRESSWIRE

In 2001, Reggie Wayne and Santana Moss left UM as the rightful owners of five school records. The legendary wide out duo contributed over 5000 receiving yards, and almost 7000 all-purpose yards, for the Canes from 1997-2000. Twelve years later, the two 33 year-olds are still scorching defenses and “throwing up the U” for TV cameras.

On Sunday, Wayne hauled in 13 footballs for 212 yards and caught the game-winning touchdown for the Indianapolis Colts. The former Hurricane is now second on the franchise’s career yards list and holds the 17th spot for all-time receiving yards in NFL history.

Meanwhile, in Washington, Moss caught two passes for 80 yards, including a 77 yard touchdown–burning Atlanta’s secondary on a classic Santana streak route. Moss, a walk-on turned UM Hall of Famer, recorded his 61st NFL touchdown and 41st reception of 40+ yards on the play.

Reggie Wayne and Santana Moss played for the first Canes team I followed as a football fan. My first UM colors arrived on Christmas morning in 2000, an orange Moss jersey and a Sugar Bowl cap. During this era I defended Wayne and Moss in front of FSU fans who believed our duo was second to their All-American receivers. Now that a decade has passed, I believe we have more than enough evidence to close this case for good.

Miami Hurricanes

The stats speak for themselves. C-A-N-E-S. Canes!
