Remember the XFL? Its legacy (and equipment) lives on in the Northern Illinois Huskies

Talk about ‘fakin’ it until you make it’.
The Northern Illinois football team, led by the nation’s leading rusher (yes, rusher) in quarterback Jordan Lynch, have officially become the first Mid-American Conference program to earn an invite to a BCS bowl game.
Not a moment too soon, from the looks of things.
The reason BCS Bowls are so highly coveted is because of how much more money each of the schools invited earns for both themselves and their programs.
The Huskies will hopefully be taking some of their Orange Bowl swag and investing in some new equipment containers.
Look just underneath the NIU Huskies logo and what do we see? Yup, an XFL logo — the Xtreme Football League, which was formed by World Wrestling Entertainment head man Vince McMahon.
The league was only in existence for one year, back in 2001. That was before iPhones, Twitter, you name it.
But its legacy (and equipment) lives on at Northern Illinois.
The Huskies may not have been ready for the big-time, but here they are; so once again, hopefully they will be taking their extra few million dollars and trashing their decade-old equipment containers for something a bit more hip with the times.
Or not.
Last time we checked, tickets to the Huskies’ Orange Bowl showdown with Florida State were selling for less than the price of a Subway footlong sub.
Ouch.
