Reuben Foster recruiting update, college decision may be swayed by friend’s choice of three schools

Reuben Foster is the nation’s No. 1-overall recruit at the inside linebacker position. A native of Alabama, Foster made his commitment known to the world when he got a massive Auburn tattoo inked onto his forearm.
However, and very much unfortunately in this case, head coach Gene Chizik was fired from his post leading the Tigers following a season in which Auburn failed to register even a single SEC victory. Thus, not sure if newly hired head man Gus Malzahn was the right coach for him, Foster rescinded his commitment to the program.
But the tattoo, obviously, stayed.
Now, according to ESPN, the strange saga of Foster’s recruitment continues. After taking a surprise trip to San Diego State, of all places, the young man who was once so sure of his choice in schools that he got it tattooed onto his arm may actually now be leaving his decision up to a buddy of his.
Christian Cumberland is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound wide receiver out of LaGrange, Georgia. He has not been rated at all by ESPN, and he currently does not have a scholarship offer on the table from Auburn or Oregon. However, those two schools are in Cumberland’s top three along with SDSU, who has offered the young wideout a free ride.
“(A visit to Oregon) depends on if they put a scholarship on the table,” Cumberlander told Robby Boydstun of eDuck.com. “I might come out. I have to talk to my mom and we might have to make a decision between Oregon and Auburn.”
The Tigers are expected to offer Cumberland within the next few days. The scholarship for his friend may end up being the deciding factor for Foster. However, no one really knows. This is the same y0ung man who once told reporters that available daycare facilities for his baby girl would be the deciding factor.
Kipp Adams of ESPN RecruitingNation provided the latest on how this scenario may wind up playing out.
“Auburn is hoping to get Foster to recommit next Monday night, and the Tigers are in the top three for Cumberlander, even though they have yet to extend a scholarship. That could change this weekend, when Cumberlander and Foster take their final official visits, to Auburn. It will be their third trip to Auburn in the last three weeks, as they were on the Auburn campus Sunday night.
San Diego State may have gotten the visit from Foster, but the up-and-coming program may have to be content simply with that. Then again, if Auburn fails to offer a scholarship to Cumberland, coach Gus Malzahn may have to be content himself in dealing with some really ticked off boosters.
