The Grim Reaper selects his victims at the precise moment, with a swift and businesslike approach. He takes delight in his work and patiently waits for his time to strike.

Alabama’s secondary has been great all season, but was on the verge of giving up a touchdown Saturday night, when one man stood in their way.

Mississippi State was down 24-0 in the third quarter, and was trying to mount a second-half comeback. The Bulldogs started on their own 1-yard line and gave Alabama’s defense all it could handle for 97 yards.

Just when State believed it could cut into the Tide’s lead, a funny thing happened.

For the second week in a row, Alabama safety Robert Lester appeared out of nowhere and crushed the opponent’s dreams in the end-zone. On second down, Lester stonewalled LaDarius Perkins at the goal-line, and the next play intercepted Tyler Russell in the end-zone.

Lester now has three interceptions this season, and two of them have been soul-snatching will-breakers that put the game to rest long before the final whistle blows. He is experienced in putting the knife in teams’ hearts with a well-timed pick.

The Tide’s resident Grim Reaper of dreams came back for his senior season to punish SEC teams and play for a third BCS title in four years. He led the SEC in interceptions in 2010 with eight, so he is no stranger to ending opponent’s drives unexpectedly. Lester is a big reason Alabama is ranked first in every major defensive category this year.

Alabama plays at LSU on Saturday night, and LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger has been anything but efficient this year. The Tide secondary, led by Robert Lester, will be out for blood when they see Mettenberger drop back to pass. Look for Lester to be shutting down the Tigers’ passing attack and devouring their national title dreams.

When you meet the Grim Reaper, you’re time has come.

LSU’s time is set for 7:00 on Saturday night in Death Valley.

Robert Lester will be waiting.
