[Video: Chris Thompson dominates Wake Forest]
The Florida State Seminoles’ 2012 campaign took a major hit on Monday when head coach Jimbo Fisher announced that star running back Chris Thompson is done for the season.
Thompson, who leads the ‘Noles with 687 rushing yards on 91 carries through seven games, tore his left ACL in the second quarter against Miami. He landed awkwardly after making a jumping catch along the sideline.
This is the second season ending injury in a row for Thompson. Last year he broke his back against Wake Forest, and then worked through a grueling nine month rehab in order to suit up for FSU this season.
It’s never easy to lose a playmaker with the talent of Thompson. The ‘Noles will have to turn to Devonta Freeman and James Wilder Jr. to pick up the load.
“It’s a very big blow to us because of what he is to our team,” Fisher said. “But we’ve got two very good guys behind him.”
Florida State will now likely have to wait another season to crack the individual 1,000 yard rushing mark. It has been 16 years since anyone in the Garnet and Gold has accomplished the feat, which is good for the longest streak in the nation.
From the Nole Nation, we wish you the best recovery possible Chris!
