Steve Spurrier equates Alabama to the Yankees, says ‘wouldn’t want to play for them’

Spurrier on Bama: “I don’t want to play for the Yankees. I don’t want to have the advantages clearly now Alabama has all the advantages. …

Steve Spurrier and the Florida Gators parted ways after building a perennial national title contender and winner of the whole shebang in 1996.
After a few (extremely) forgettable years with the Washington Redskins, The Ole’ Ball coach headed back to the collegiate ranks, taking over the vacant head coaching position at South Carolina.
Formerly one of the jokes of the SEC, Spurrier has built the Gamecocks into a force. He is already the winningest coach in the history of the program and the team has won 11 games in consecutive seasons for the first time in its history.
However, he has not won a national championship since that 1996 season with quarterback Danny Wuerffel. On the other hand, his counterpart at Alabama, Nick Saban, has won four. His first came with LSU, but his last three have all come in the previous four years with the Crimson Tide.
He has brought in the nation’s top recruiting classes in five of the last six offseasons. Saban’s 2013 recruits, as a group, were once again the class of the country.
Heck, just take a look at the Tide’s new $9 million workout facility.
If that doesn’t reek of the ‘Evil Empire’ Spurrier is alluding to, we don’t know what is.
Spurrier may be flapping his gums once again, but Saban doesn’t have to say a word — he just has to flash his rings, and of course, that winning Saban smile (or something like that).
