Rumor Mill: Tennessee coaching search down to three candidates, Larry Fedora to interview

| December 4, 2012 at 1:16 pm | 2 Comments

Several sources are reporting that the University of Tennessee is down to three candidates to fill their vacant head coaching position: North Carolina’s Larry Fedora, Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy, and Louisville’s Charlie Strong.

VolsQuest.com reported that Tennessee will interview Fedora on Tuesday.

Fedora just finished his first season as the North Carolina Tar Heels head coach, compiling an 8-4 record in the ACC.

From 2008-11 he was in charge of Southern Mississippi’s football team. He led the Golden Eagles to a 34-19 overall record in four years.

Strong, the current head coach of a BCS-bowling Louisville Cardinals team, is one of the hottest coaching candidates on the market. Prior to taking over Louisville, he helped coach the Florida Gators defense to two national championships.

In three years at the helm of Louisville, Strong has coached the Cardinals to a 24-14 record.

Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy is the longest-tenured head coach on the Vols’ shortlist. He has coached the Cowboys to a 66-35 record, a Big 12 Championship, and BCS Bowl birth in 2011.

Who would you want to coach your team?

Fedora has won everywhere he has been, but Strong is a good choice also. I’d be happy with either.
