Texas beats Texas Tech for first Big 12 win of the year

Like any college kid this time of year, I had a rough weekend due to flu like symptoms.

What I’ve been able to digest in two days: copious amounts of Dayquil, Nyquil, several gallons of water, and half a box of thin mints.

What I didn’t have to digest: another painful Texas basketball loss, because (drumroll please) Texas finally won a conference game!

At long last, the Longhorns were able to exorcise their conference play demons by besting Texas Tech 73-57 at home, bringing home their first conference win this season, improving their conference record to 1-5 and their overall record to 9-10.

Overall, it was a complete game by the Horns, as they were able to force 19 Tech turnovers, shoot just over 46% from the floor, and made 18 of 25 from the stripe.

Ioannis Papapetrou stepped in for the injured Jonathan Holmes, and he answered the call.  Through 25 minutes of play, he scored 15 points, while grabbing four boards and dishing out five assists.

He also dominated the post game on the Longhorn Network, proving he has the best accent in college basketball.  When asked about it, he came to the conclusion that “it’s all for the ladies.”  What a stud.

Texas faces a much tougher test on Wednesday against a solid Kansas State squad.  The Wildcats will come in determined to win after a demoralizing loss to Iowa State on Saturday.

The game is Wednesday night, 7 p.m. CST in Manhattan, KS at the Fred Bramlage Coliseum, also known as the “Octagon of Doom” or the “any college application, no matter how poor, is accepted here dome.”
