Settle It: Tim Tebow, Cam Newton, or Johnny ‘Football’ Manziel?

Tim Tebow, Cam Newton, & Johnny ‘Football’ Manziel. (Derick E. Hingle, Richard Mackson, Thomas Campbell – US PRESSWIRE)

Like Burger King before us, you have it your way.

Think of this like NCAA 2K12, where you can pick and choose any Heisman winner (or Heisman favorite, not to jinx anyone specifically, A&M fans) from any year to join your squad of circle button wonders.

We are simply going to present the numbers instead of comparing one’s to another; We are going to leave that up to you, the erstwhile member of Gamedayr Nation, to figure that out for yourselves.

So, who would you take?

In 2007, Florida’s Tim Tebow totally changed the game, bulldozing elite defenders and absolutely willing his team to win as if he were The Chosen One himself (wait, about that …). Despite what some folks criticized as a poor throwing motion — who will remain nameless, but we’re looking at you, Phil Simms — Tebow completed 234-of-350 pass attempts for a solid 66.9 completion percentage, totaling a career-high 3,286 yards through the air and a stupid 32 touchdowns with only six interceptions. His passer rating was an absurd 172.5, but he arguably did more damage with his legs. Mr. Tebow averaged 4.3 yards per carry with 895 yards on 210 carries.

His 23 rushing touchdowns gave him a total of a silly 55 total touchdowns on the year; undeniably sick numbers — good enough for a Heisman — but would you take him over Cam or Johnny Football? Even all you Gators fans, and we know who you are, don’t decide just yet.

After first wallowing away in the spotlight of none other than Tebow, Cam spent time at a junior college. All this was before Gene Chizik saw his first (and now pretty much the one and only) chance at riding an elite athlete towards a BCS National Championship.

In 2010, not only did Cam make good on Chizik’s high hopes by winning the national title, but he put up 2K12-esque numbers in the process. Cam completed 185-of-280 passes, good for a 66.1 completion percentage. In the process of completing all those throws, he tossed for 2,854 yards and 30 touchdowns with a mere seven picks. Cam used his size, standing in at 6-foot-5 and weighing a burly 245 pounds, to rack up 1,473 yards on 264 carries, averaging 5.6 yards a clip and finding paydirt another 20 times.

That makes for an even 50 touchdowns on the season, a national title, and one heck of a rush for War Eagle Nation, for all you math whizzes out there (maybe spend less time playing 2K12 boys and girls). We all know who the recently fired Gene Chizik would take, but would you? Again, keep your fingers off the trigger, and decide if you can take him over Texas A&M’s redshirt freshman sensation.

After spending the 2011 season on the sidelines, first year head coach Kevin Sumlin did not hand the starting job over to Manziel until close to the first weekend of the regular season. After losing to Florida in Week 1, Manziel has not looked back, completing 273-of-400 attempts, a 68.3 passing percentage, with 3,419 yards through the air, 24 scores and eight picks. Manziel has earned his moniker with his legs, however, rushing for 1,181 yards on 184 attempts, a 6.4 yards per carry average, with 19 more scores.

His 43 touchdowns can still be added to, as Football has yet to obviously play in a bowl game in his first season. However, the 10 wins he led his Aggies to in the program’s first season as members of the SEC is A&M’s most since 1998 — not terribly shabby.

So there it is folks; forget the Whopper, but remember, have it your way:

If this were a video game, who would you want putting up those video game-esque numbers?
