Traditions, such as this one, are exactly why Gamedayr exists. The history and culture that surround college football are what make our beloved sport so great.
Tennessee fans welcomed ESPN’s College GameDay crew into town by painting The Rock, a campus tradition among Volunteers.
The Rock was discovered in the 1960s and has since become a place for students to express themselves. The Daily Beacon has editorialized: “Originally a smaller rock, The Rock has grown in prestige and size while thousands of coats of paint have been thrown on its jagged face. Really, its function is as an open forum for students.”
Following are two videos of the staff from the Office of Communications and Marketing painting The Rock prior to College GameDay’s arrival in Knoxville.
